that's exactly what i was thinking!
I went and read up and the answer is that if you subtract the added digits in a number two digit number from that two digit number the answer will always be divisible by 9. So you just give 9,18,27 etc the same symbol. If the symbols stayed the same all the time you'd figure it out pretty quick, but because they change them it appears to be reading your mind. Really rather simple, just wish I'd have figured it out on my own.
