Riding the bus in the greater Sacramento area

About four and a half years ago, I had a very entertaining trip on a bus from Davis to Sacramento. Last night I had another amusing trip. While waiting at a stop with arms full of groceries, a friendly gentleman approached me. He was quite worried about aphids from the grass invading my grocery bags. I soon learnt that was not all that he was paranoid of. As a group of university students walked by, he was convinced they were calling him 'fat a**'. I heard no such term nor do I think they even noticed him. His groceries were double bagged. This was because he "didn't like people looking at what he was eating and making judgements". I was glad when the bus came.

On the bus, I ended up sitting near a couple who were having quite the amusing conversation. To sum it up, I never knew cleaning houses could be so interesting. I also didn't know those having their houses cleaned could be so blatantly racist.

The people who are riding the bus are not the only interesting thing about the buses in Davis. The extensive transit system is entirely run by undergraduate students! The first time I rode the bus it crossed my mind that my bus driver looked quite young. I then realized that all the drivers were really young. I guess I should have figured it out when I saw the name 'Unitrans'. Unitrans has been owned and managed by the UCDavis students for the past 20 years. Out of all the cities I've lived in (which is only 3), it is by far the best transit system I've experienced. And to think, the student body does that with only 10000 more than UofS in a city a third the size of S'toon. Maybe the USSU should look at starting their own transit system since our city administration can't seem to figure it out!

By the way, my groceries are aphid free.

as a transit rider, I too have noticed that people who ride the bus can be quite... interesting. I often wonder if other people look at me as being 'interesting' as well.

I saw a graying 65 year old woman with pigtails, a baseball cap and about 30 jelly bracelets on one wrist on the bus this morning. Riding the bus is so not boring!

keep safe!

got a little annoyed with the bus driver that didn't stop for me this morning! good thing it was only a 20 minute wait for the next bus.
