An engagement for myself as well as for my little brother, 5 new stamps on my passport, some decent research results, scholarships equivalent to a substantial pay raise and a re-discovered love for soccer ... I'd say it's been a good year!

Acronyms!

I wrote an email today that made me realize how many acronyms are used in my field. Can any non-science geeks decipher any of them in this exert?

"I talked to [somebody] this morning and he is willing to let us buy some time on the ABI machine for the SSRs and possibly AFLPs. He said that sequencing for SNPs is best done through PBI as it would end up costing more on his ABI machine. He also said there was a ‘guest’ bench available in his lab where I could work on all the PCRs that will be run on the ABI. The CAPS markers I can run most easily on agarose, probably in 3C17."

It is that time of the year ...

when my mom phones and says "what do you want for Christmas". My list seems to include a lot of things for cold weather this year. Imagine that. This is my list.
